Not all calories are created equal, okay?
And I say this with love.
400 calories of oil or chicken, is not the same as 400 calories of vegetables.
A piece of fruit and a handful of nuts can equal out to 300 calories, but so can a slice of pie or cake.
The same goes for carbohydrates (carbs,) okay?
Carbs that are associated with, let’s say, baked sweet potatoes, are not the same carbs that are associated with a bag of potato chips. I want to stress this because I remember a time when a popular juice brand was coming under scrutiny because the sugar on their nutrition facts was high.
I was like, wow, really? These are fruits and vegetables! The sugar is natural!
Now, I don’t know how this popular juice brand produces their juices, but if they are like me, and don’t add ANYTHING additional to their drinks, then the sugar percentage should be expected. It’s pretty much the same for whether you ate the apple itself, or drank it’s juice. Ignorance is real and I know it is a lot easier for people to find something to be at fault with, rather than trying to understand why something is the way that it is.
Well, I’d like for you all to be well informed.
You must know that you can take a look at the nutrition facts on a candy bar and see that it may include, what, 1.5 grams of protein, but you aren’t going to conclude that that protein can be compared to the protein that is in Brussel sprouts or asparagus, are you?
You just aren’t.
A salad that consists of just greens can make your belly feel full, but it does not necessarily mean that you’ll feel satiated. You must go through trial and error to figure out what works for you!
Don’t skip breakfast because you feel like you’re eating too much and then pick up a cup of coffee from your favorite coffee shop. The coffee is likely to contain the same amount of calories that the meal you’re avoiding does—
Now, listen, I eat cake, I eat pie.
But I don't compare those calories/carbs/sugars to those of foods that grow from the Earth.
